Lumion 2023 is unlike any previous version of the software
Introducing Lumion Pro With a completely redesigned renderer, Lumion 2023 marks the beginning of a new chapter. In October 2022, we revealed that ray tracing was coming to Lumion, a massive undertaking that required rebuilding our renderer from scratch. Now, the time has finally come: Lumion 2023 is now live! By completely rethinking our renderer to integrate ray tracing alongside rasterization, we are now able to deliver a platform that will be improved faster and easier than ever before. Key Features of Lumion Pro The New Lumion 2023 Renderer Since the inception of Lumion, we have been driven forward by the idea that 3D rendering should be accessible to all architects and designers, regardless of their technical background. Our goal has always been to provide a fast, simple, and intuitive way to visualize the future.
In many ways, the release of Lumion 2023 represents a complete fundamental shift for the software
To empower architects to create without barriers or hesitation and present designs that go beyond form and function to capture hearts and minds. Powered by a hybrid rendering engine that works with rasterization and ray tracing, Lumion 2023 helps you achieve the highest quality results, regardless of your hardware. So, if you don’t have a ray tracing-capable graphics card, you can still see a significant improvement in Lumion’s rendering quality thanks to improved rasterization technology for all your building, landscape, or interior architecture designs. Ultimately, it’s not the technology itself that matters, but how it’s applied to serve a higher purpose. Whether you’re developing a design, exploring ideas, or presenting your vision for the future, this goal is entirely up to you. Introducing Ray Tracing v0.9 Unlike rasterization, ray tracing technology doesn’t require any tricks to mimic reality: it calculates how light behaves in the real world.
Reflections now work automatically whenever ray tracing is enabled
When enabled, your renders will automatically feature more realistic indirect lighting, off-screen reflections, contact shadows, and more. Lumion’s new ray tracing effect lets you control the number of samples and bounces, giving you greater control over the final result. See your design in a new light Lumion 2023’s new lighting system opens up a world of possibilities, enabling more natural renderings. With ray tracing, curved surfaces now display accurate reflections, removing the need for reflection planes. In the first implementation, the ray tracing effect will not support reflections from glass or water materials. Give your surfaces a realistic feel It’s often the smallest details that help communicate your design most effectively.
Reflections on a facade
Light streaming through a curtain. A wet cobblestone street. When materials look real, your design comes to life. With the ability to fine-tune these details in just a few clicks, you can create a viewing experience that speaks to all the senses. Improved Material Editor The Material Editor has been significantly improved to give you a greater degree of control over material settings. The Material Editor in Lumion 2023 offers the following options: More Material Properties Lumion 2023’s raster workflow lets you control subsurface scattering.

This gives objects a translucent effect, allowing light to penetrate the object and be subtly diffused. You can also affect the hue of the scattered light by assigning a color to the material map.
