A land grab threatens to destroy the declining dynasty
Tale
When the vast cattle station in Lawson has no heir, rival factions across Australia see a chance to seize control. The series is filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia in locations so remote that they are almost uninhabited – let alone on screen. The locations include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park – with special permission from the traditional owners – and Tipperary Station, a real, working cattle station so large it has its own airport and school.
Yes, they will compare it to Yellowstone
Yes, there are the same plots, conflicts and wacky characters. Yes, you can name many similar problems. For me, two major problems are things that just happen because they are supposed to move the plot forward.
Plots that make no sense
The family patriarch just decides on the succession without really considering the pros and cons of each option. The second is the plot holes, which exist for a similar reason to propel the plot forward. The station is supposed to be the size of Belgium, but it’s run by a family (initially 4 members, later expanded to a bit more) and what appears to be a skeleton crew.
I also didn’t like how everything just kept building
But of course, greedy corporations are trying to take it away from them. The tension builds, the conflict deepens, the passions flare… and then things are resolved (somehow) within half an hour.
The cinematography is good, the scenery looks beautiful
But it’s not a bad show if you can look past that.
